I've seen this type of "Social Engineering" in
various forms. It's interesting but it's just a
matter of being aware.
For example: Many years ago, a car salesman tried
it on me as was casually asking if I drove to the
dealership and what job I had. I answered I took
the bus and that I was a janitor. Why? I assumed
that he was trying to find out if I had a car
(For trade-in purposes) and how much I was able
to afford (After all, one can figure out a salary
range when given a job title.)
Bottom line: I didn't give him information useful
to his cause.
Has this sort of thing been done to you? Let us
